Judges for the Hidden Kiosk Competition are as follows:

Diana Bird
Diana is director of Wedge Card, A loyalty card for independent shops, which plugs into peoples desires to keep their high streets and communities intact. It helps businesses keep and attract new customers and to encourage local people to use their local shops.

Dougald Hine
Dougald is the founder of Space Makers - which unites people to reimagine the spaces we live, work and play in. Making headlines with in Brixton Village, when empty shops were transformed into a rolling festival of pop-up projects and new long-term local businesses.

Annemarie Naylor
Annemarie is Asset Programmes Manager at Development Trusts Association - working to ensure communities become places where people have a sense of common ownership and pride, where everyone is allowed to achieve their potential, and which are socially, economically and environmentally prosperous.


Ben Howard
Ben is a marketing, PR and publicity consultant whose work with his Cool Publicity business and his community projects Keep Colchester Cool and Colchester! Free Festival enables him to promote Colchester’s music and arts scene to a wider audience.

Nick Barlow
Nick is the Colchester Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Business and Tourism and has represented Castle Ward since 2007. A keen writer and blogger Nick has walked from John O’ Groats to Land’s End to raise money for the Brain Research Trust.


Frances Leate
Frances is a local journalist for the Colchester Publication The Evening Gazette. Over her years on the journal she has reported on, and been a great supporter of creative projects in the town that enrich the fabric of the community.

David Williams
David is the Owner of Jacks. A Colchester institution, there is not a person in Town who doesn’t know and love Jacks for it’s ability to seemingly stock exactly what you need. It has been there since 1946 and is still independent and going strong.

Eddie Bridgeman
Eddie is Director of Meanwhile Space which facilitates creative and enterprising uses for buildings and land that are temporarily vacant. Eddie is also a Director of Seasider, an enterprise to promote the contemporary activities of the British seaside to an urban audience.

Lea Simpson
In Lea’s own words she ’ spends (her) time consulting and venturing with amazing people.She is the co founder of UnchainedGuide.com – The guide to the best independent shops in London and New York, which was founded four years ago.

Alison Fogg
Alison works in the regeneration team at Colchester Borough Council. She is responsible for developing activity within the St Botolph’s Quarter as part of the European funding Creative Urban Renewal in Europe programme.

Marc De’ath
Marc is a social entrepreneur passionate about ideas, creativity and sustainability. His work as founder of The Creative Coop brings these elements together with the creative thinkers and doers who can help build active communities working toward a better planet.

Phil Gunton
Gunton’s is one of Colchester’s longest surviving family run independent stores. Founded in 1936 by Herbert Gunton to roast coffee and sell groceries. It now also specialises in cheeses from Europe and supports local producers from East Anglia and Britain.

Robert Turnbull
Robert is an advisor for Business Link East. He has through personal experience, a unique insight into the challenges facing Small Medium Enterprises. He has lived and worked in Colchester for many years and has a good knowledge of the local business landscape.

Katherine Wood
Katherine has been Director of firstsite since its inception in 1994. Katherine is passionate about supporting artists at all stages of their careers and is committed to making Colchester a great place for the creative community to live, work and flourish.
